The CEAT Alumni Homecoming was held last October 10, 2016. The day started with a parade attended by UPLB Alumni, together with the faculty and staff, students, and visitors. There was a luncheon held thereafter at the EE Auditorium. The afternoon activity has hosted by our very own Liezel Caroche, together with Adrian Sumalde. The Class 2011 and 2006 were recognized as the Jubilarians of the Industrial Engineering department. The UPLB Loyalty Day was held prior that day (October 9, 2016) at Baker Hall. During the Salu-Salu luncheon, a few IE Alumni won in the raffle.

Ms. Kristianne A. Mercado was awarded the 2016 Distinguished Industrial Engineering Young Alumna. This award started last year; Asst. Prof. Haerold Dean Z. Layaoen became the first recipient. Unfortunately, Ms. Mercado was not able to personally receive the award.  

 

Donations for the event are deeply appreciated. The UP SAGES celebrated its 50-year anniversary and they donated Php150,000 to the CEAT Alumni Association for the purpose of financing a scholar in UPLB. Along with other donors, the IE Alumni also provided donations. The IE Department and the whole CEAT community is very grateful and proud of this year's donors:

Last July 12, 2016, the new IE (Industrial Engineering) Building, located along Pili Drive, UP Campus, Los Banos, Laguna, was inaugurated. Attended by whole IE faculty and staff, together with UPLB top Officials and invited guests, the inauguration started at nine thirty in the morning. UPLB Officials Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development Marish S. Madlangbayan were present; together with the CEAT Dean Arnold R. Elepano, CEAT Associate Dean Mrya G. Borines and heads, faculty and staff of the CEAT departments and units. 

 

The program started with a welcome message from the chair of the IE Department, Asst. Prof. Haerold Dean Z. Layaoen, who whole-heartedly expressed his gratitude to everyone who made this event and all activities leading to this inauguration possible. He also thanked the support given by the Office of the Chancellor and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development. Dr. Marish S. Madlangbayan also gave a short welcoming remark and response to the message given by Asst. Prof. Layaoen. Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. then also talked about future and upcoming projects in UPLB that we should be excited for; moreover, he expressed how beautiful the IE Building is, and that it should set as an example for other buidings to follow especially in the quest for creating a good and effective learning environment for everyone.  

Led by Pastor Bonifacio Arzadon, Jr., the blessing was preceded by a short talk about relationship of the people with God. Then with lighted candles, Pastor Arzadon prayed over the building and asked God to shield it from negativity, darkness, and tragedy. After the blessing was the Ribbon Cutting ceremony with the presence of Dr. Sanchez, Dr. Madlangbayan, Dr. Elepano, Asst. Prof. Layaoen, and with the special participation of Ms. Marites Castro who assisted Dr. Sanchez (see above photo).

 

An open house tour followed, where the new facilities and security features of the IE Building was shown to the guests. The IE Building boasts of its tight security features that include biometric double-sided locks, smoke detectors, and CCTV security system in high-definition (HD) that can record continuously and store data that lasts for 7 days. The new IE Building also features a bigger faculty room and four new classrooms. Comfort rooms were also renovated which included a shower and bidet-facilitated toilet bowls. 

 

A simple lunch was provided after the tour. Expenses for the food were shouldered by some IE Alumni who gave monetary donations. The IE department faculty and staff would like to express deepest appreciation  and recognition for the utmost support given by the following IE alumni:
